HIV/AIDS Medications are too high for average families in the third world
If there was one thing I would do to change the world, regardless of expenses, it would definitely be to lower the cost of medications for HIV/AIDS. Currently there are over 30 million people worldwide living with HIV/AIDS. Amazingly, there is a mixture of drugs that keeps the HIV/AIDS from progressing even more, and can prolong someone’s life for 20 years or more. Although these are what some would call “miracle drugs” they cost around $15,000 a month, depending on location and availability, however for most people in the developing world, this cost is way too high, and it is almost impossible for an average family to afford these drugs. To even think what it would be like, to have to decide if you were going to go into extreme amounts of debt, or letting your mother/father die- it is devastating. Currently there are 11.6 million HIV/AIDS orphans in Africa. I am going to make it my life goal, to make sure these numbers do not increase, and with proper funding, maybe even decrease. If it were possible to lower the cost of medications, that would be how I would change the world.
