For those of you in Canada, MTV, in partnership with Plan Canada, will be airing for the first time, on November 13th at 9:30pm, Girls of Latitude. Girls of Latitude follows the girls of MTV live as they explore the issues of early marriage in Sudan, juvenile justice in Haiti and peace building in Colombia. Join Nicole as she travels to Haiti and learns from Patricia what it’s like to be a 14-year orphan struggling to survive on the street – more familiar with a jail cell than a schoolroom. Hear Diane support Liseth, a 16-year-old Colombian peace advocate, in a local radio broadcast promoting dialogue over violence. Watch along with Aliya-Jasmine as Suku and the Girls Education Movement in Southern Sudan promote education and speak out against the practice of forcing young girls into marriage.

Diane of MTV visited Colombia where she learned that Colombia has the highest murder rate of any place in the world. that girls are particularly vulnerable to sexual violence and abuse and that Colombian girls are three times more likely than Canadian girls to become mothers during their teenage years. What are some of the many things that youth can do to support peace both in their own communities and around the world?

This forum is a place to talk about the issue of juvenile justice. In Haiti, Patricia experienced many things that young people should never have to face. However, Nicole, from MTV, mentions that there is still hope. What can we do here in Canada, or other parts of the world, to make sure that girls like Patricia don't ever have to face this issue? How can we support this hope?
